clinton on capitol hill. lawmakers questions her earlier today about the september 11, 2012 attacks on the american consulate in benghazi, libya. four americans were killed that day, including ambassador christopher stevens. secretary clinton's testimony had been post toned until now. she took responsibility and emsized her commitment to improving diplomat security abroad. >> as i have mentioned many times i take responsibility and nobody is more committed to getting this right. i am determined to leave the state department and our country safer, stronger, and more secure. now, taking responsibility meant moving quickly in those first uncertain hours and days to respond to the immediate crisis, but, also, to further protect our people and posts in high-threat areas across the region and the world. it meant launching an independent investigation to determine exactly what happened in benghazi and to recommend steps for improvement and it meant intensifying our efforts to cat combat terrorism and figure out effective ways to support emerging democracies in north africa and beyond. >> r

at the magnificent job secretary hillary clinton has done the past four years. she lost the nomination fight in 2008 and looks better now than she ever did. she looks happy, confident, strong. she looks like a winner. she certainly looked like a winner today before a group of senators and congressmen that included, let's face it, the serious, the comic, and the absurd. well, good for her, i say, as her legion of followers like to say, go, girl, go. if she doesn't run for president, i can't think why. after today i can't think of a reason out there. if she performs in the campaign anything like she did today, she'll win and win big. if she performs as well as she did today, look out. that's "hardball." thanks for being with us. start tonight with this. secretary of state hillary clinton was at her best today appearing between both senate and house committees on foreign affairs. she showed acuity, humility, and charm. she showed candor and humility in place of the state department handling of the horror. she admitted to -- in response to hostile questions she came back with strength and a challenge of her own. hillary, hillary, hillary. she never looked better. venturing forth in unprotected waters today she showed how not to sweat. also how to exhibit humanity and compassion. even when the witnesses are looking desperately to target her weaknesses. again, it was a magnificent display of smarts, i think. guts definitely and caring. she looked ever bit like a person who could run for president, run well, win big, and serve confidently. what a day it's been for the progressive side of american politics. what a great week it's been and it's only wednesday. let's hear what our guests think. howard fineman is with "the huffington post." joan walsh is with the salon. i'll start with joan. i want to get your thoughts.
